Tomato Rasam / Southindian Soup

Today's recipe is brought to you guys by my husband and I am super excited to share his recipe with you guys.Actually he is very good at making drinks (nonalcoholic only!)even makes very good masala chai.Sothindian meal never complete without Rasam.Tomato Rasam is a thin Soup prepared with tomatoes,whole black pepper and fresh curry leaves .It is not only tasty but also healthy as light on stomach ..Though there are many variations of Rasam that made in south India But my hubs usually makes tomato Rasam as cook in no time and easy to make.

Ingredients:

  1. Chopped tomatoes-1 cup
  2. Water-3 cup
  3. Rasam powder-1 to2 ts
  4. Fresh Curry leaves-1/4 cup
  5. Whole black pepper-5-7
  6. Whole dry red chilli-1-2

Procedure:

  • Heat a pot with oil,Add cumin seeds,mustard seeds,whole black pepper  and when seeds began to pop,Add whole red chilli and hing/asafoetida.
  • Add curry leaves and sauté for a while.Then add chopped ginger and finely chopped onions and fry till translucent.
  • Add finely chopped tomatoes and cook till softens.Add water,Rasam powder and salt and cook for 10-15 minutes.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
