Nimona Or Green Peas Curry In Awadhi Style

As the market is flooded with peas everywhere I just couldn't resist myself as I wanted something interesting with peas So ended up making this delicious 'Matar Ka Nimona'.Nimona is a traditional dish of Awadhi cuisine and prepared during winter season when fresh peas are in abundance.It is very colourful and lovely curry of green peas.I always love to cook recipes from other cuisines and have learnt many new recipes and Nimona is one of them.The best part is it is so easy to prepare and using small variations one can make a million different dish.

Ingredients:

  1. Green peas-1 cup
  2. Potatoes-1to 2
  3. Chopped onions-1
  4. Chopped tomato-1
  5. Chopped coriander leaves-1/2 cup
  6. Chopped green chilli-1/2 ts
  7. Garlic cloves-2
  8. Chopped ginger-1/2 ts

Procedure:

  • Peel the potatoes & cut into small pieces.Fry them in heated oil till they turn brown.Keep them on an absorbent paper.
  • Peel & wash green peas and make a coarse paste of the peas and keep in a bowl.Grind chopped coriander leaves,green chilli ,garlic cloves and ginger to a fine green paste and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan,Add cumin seeds when seeds pop,Add chopped onions and sauté till turn brown.Add green paste and cook for2-3 minutes.
  • Then add peas paste & chopped tomato & cook for 4-5 minutes.
  • Add spices (coriander powder,red chilli powder salt,Garam masala) & little water and bring it to a boil.Add fried potatoes and cook for 4-5 minutes.Turnoff the flame and serve with puri/ paratha.
