The word 'Halwa' means sweet.Halwa's are dense sweet confection and eaten very fondly all over India.There is no set rule,one can be creative and make Halwa of choice like carrot Halwa bread Halwa,pineapple Halwa.Bread Halwa is a rich,quick Indian dessert made with easily available ingredients and good choice to use your leftover dried bread slices...Its a simple dessert with ordinary ingredients which magically form into a cohesive something that is rather extra ordinary...May be its the humble bread fried golden in ghee and sprinkling of dry fruits at the end or cardamom and saffron which adding a wonderful aroma and beautiful texture to the dish.
It's process and making is so easy that you can make it in hurry.I am a big fan of creating recipes out of leftover I have in my kitchen.I have shared couple of recipes that were created to utilise things that were not going to be used for a long time.Bread Halwa is one of such recipe which I prepared to use leftover breads....I made this royal bit for the first time...But its so good that I have started to believe beginners luck is not a myth...Make this immediately or any time you have bread that drying up...Here's what you need to do..
Ingredients:
- Milk Bread Slice-6
- Sugar-6ts
- Milk-1cup
- Ghee-1/4 cup
- Chopped nuts-cashews and almonds
- Raisins-handful
- Saffron strand -5to7
Procedure:
- Take 6 slices of milk bread and grate them or grind to a coarse powder.Keepaside in a bowl.
- Heat ghee in a Kadai,Add grated bread slice and roast well for 4-5 minutes till it turn brown in colour.c
- Add milk and mix well till milk is absorbed by the bread.
- Add sugar and cardamom powder and soaked saffron ,keep mixing till the mixture become thick ,shiny and starts to leave ghee in the sides of Kadai.
- Garnish with chopped nuts and serve hot.
