Misal Pav/Spicy Sprouts Curry Served With Buns & Topped With farsan
Misal pav is a popular Maharashtrian breakfast dish and street food and it is served with pav,tomato onion salad with a spicy mixture known as sprouted Matki.My husband drools over misal pav as he started his career in Pune and love Maharashtrian food, so for his sake sometimes I prepare Misal pav.It is very spicy,tasty,lip smacking and mouth watering !!
Though there are many various kinds of missal and it differ from place to place...Mine is Mumbai version which I got from my friend and It is made with mixed sprouts or moth beans and pav are buns or Indian bread and garnish with mixed farsan or sev, chopped onions tomatoes and coriander leaves on the top.A squeeze from lime adds extra tang....Yummm drooling right...then why delay ....enjoy misal pav making at home ...in a more hygienic and more better way...Here goes the recipes.
Ingredients:
- Pav or buns-4to6
- Sprouts-1 cup
- Chopped onions-1/2 cup
- Chopped tomatoes-1/2cup
- Farsan or sev-1/2 cup
- Chopped coriander leaves-4ts
- Boiled potatoes-1/2 cup
- Lemon wedges-2to4
Procedure:
- I make my sprouts myself.Soak the moth beans overnight and Drain them out in the morning and wrap them tightly in a damp towel and store in a humid place or you can buy sprouts from stores.
- In a pressure cooker take sprouts with 2 cup of water,salt,turmeric powder and pressure cook for 1 whistle.In a pan,Heat oil and Add mustard seeds along with dry red chillies.When seeds began to pop,Add chopped onions and ginger and sauté till onions turns brown.
- Then add chopped tomatoes and all the spices and cook till oil separates from the sides.

- Add cooked sprouts ,boiled potatoes with 2-3 cup water and cook for 5-10 minutes on low flame so that spices get absorbed by the sprouts.

- Before serving pour misal in a serving bowl and sprinkle 2 ts of mixed Farsan or sev,2ts chopped onions ,tomatoes and coriander leaves and squeeze lemon juice and serve immediately with ghee roasted buns or pav.
