Kalmi Vada / Fried Lentil Patties
It's time to bring some essence of my roots on the table.This was one of such dish which was like a feast in my family 'kalmi vada or Rajasthani Dal pakora 'is a popular Rajasthani street food and It has wonderfully crunchy texture and stimulating flavour which make it a challenge to stop with one serving!!These are deep fried patties made with lentil and served with a zesty Hari chutney.Everyone has memories of their childhood..........It's the memories that hold us to each other......Memories of cool rainy days........Somethings are bound to make you nostalgic.....This is the dish that makes me nostalgic about my childhood....Not to forget the hot fried delicacy that one eat without feeling no guilt.I remember how it smelled ,how mom would insist for one more hot pakora ,how papa wanted all of us to eat from one plate,he believed and still believes eating together is the key to being closer..Hense Rajasthan is a dry area so rainfall is very low here So Whenever rain came to my place,my mom used to make this healthy & nutritious Dal-Vada for us and it was a treat for the rainy days and we enjoyed a lot!Ahhh I remember it all and so fondly !It is through the food I try to live all of it again.I make it just the way my mom taught me and it requires only the most basic ingredients apart from my mom love! Hope you guys like this very simple & delicious Rajasthani snacks Kalmi vada....
Ingredients:
- Split yellow gram lentil/ moong dal-1 cup
- Chopped green chilli-1 ts
- Chopped coriander leaves-1 ts
- Whole coriander seeds-1/2ts
Procedure:
- Wash &soak yellow gram dal for 2-3 hours.Blend dal coarsely with little water.
- Mix chopped green chilli and coriander leaves,whole coriander seeds,red chilli powder,salt and pinch of hing /asafoetida and make soft & crumbly dough.
- Make round ball of dough and deep fry in a pan until golden brown.
- Serve hot with green chutney.
