Khatti Mithi Dabeli/Sweet & Tangy Indian Burger
Dabeli is a popular& authentic Gujarati street food .Dabeli is a Gujarati term and it literally translates to 'pressed'...A pressed bun with a strange filling inside mainly with chutney potatoes,pomegranate seeds and peanuts .All the chutney,potato filling,pomegranate seeds &peanuts make it sweet,tangy,spicy,crunchy,a very filling burger .Dabeli means pressed so its basically put the filling press & eat :)Dabeli gives you a bunch of flavour & texture in each bite-a party for your tastebuds !!
originates from the Kutch region of Gujarat and was created Sometimes in the 1960.The distinctive flavour of the Dabeli comes from the special Dabeli masala,A special blend with a bunch of spices packed in.Once the Dabeli masala and chutney are ready ,Dabeli is extremely simple to put together.All you have to do is prepare potatoes filling assemble the Dabeli and toast it.So coming back to my recipe it's just like you get at the street side stalls.This Dabeli recipe is my effort to replicate the tastiest Dabeli and you too can easily recreate it at your home.
Ingredients:
- Burger Buns-3-4
- Tamarind chutney-1/4cup
- Green chutney-1/4cup
- Garlic chutney-1/4cup
- Pomegranates seeds-1/2cup
- Sev or Bhujiya-1/2cup
- Roasted peanuts-1/4cup
- Chopped onions-1/2cup
- Boiled potatoes-4-5
- Chopped coriander leaves &green chilli-2ts
Procedure:
- Boil,peel,mash potatoes & finely chop the onions.
- In a pan heat oil,add cumin seeds,coriander seeds,mustard seeds,fennel seeds,dry red chilli and sauté for a while.When thy crackle Add dabeli masala,turmeric powder,red chilli powder,salt with 1/4 cup water and mix.
- Then add mashed potatoes,chopped onions, green chilli ,pomegranate seeds,tamarind chutney and green chutney.Garnish with sev and chopped coriander leaves.Mix everything well and switch off the flame.
- Slice the bun into halves.Apply green chutney on one side and tamarind chutney on other.Put about 3-4 tablespoons potato filling on the bottom half of the bun, Then top with peanuts,pomegranates seeds,chopped onions,chopped coriander leaves and sev.Press slightly and Repeat with all the buns.
- Heat a tawa and apply some butter and toast both sides of the buns till slightly brown and crisp.
- Serve hot.
