Dhaba Style Dal Tadka/Indian Lentil Soup

Though there are many types of Dal but Nothing beats the simplicity and appeal of TheDhaba Style  thick yellow Dal, slow coked and later tempered with Tadka or aromatic spices with crispy Tandoori Roti gives a feeling of heaven in every bite you take.Ummm complete bliss!Today I am sharing the rustic Dhaba Style Dal Tadka and No fine dining can beat the taste of Dhaba Style Dal.No road trip is complete without having a Dhaba stop and enjoying their smoking hot curries with Tandoori Roti.This is the one dish which my family has to order whenever we stop at a Highway Dhaba.The taste still lingers on my tongue and just a single thought of this dish makes me drool even today.
I got learn this Dal Tadka from a Dhaba chef during one of my road journey and It is the cooking process which makes it so unique and irresistible.In this Dal pressure cooked Dal is first mixed with sautéed ginger,green chilli & onions then ghee tempered dry red chilli and cumin seeds are poured over it at the time of serving.It hardly takes few minutes to get prepared and arrive to your table in a Dhaba and trust me the taste is unbeatable.So once in a lifetime everyone must visit the Dhaba and try Dal Tadka for sure.

Ingredients:

  1. Tuvar Dal or Pigeon Peas Spilt-1 cup
  2. Ghee-2 ts
  3. Onion-1large size
  4. Tomato-1 med size
  5. Ginger-1 to
  6. Green chilli-1 ts
  7. Dry Red Chilli-2
  8.  Chopped coriander leaves-2ts
  9. Garam masala-1/2 Tcs
  10. Lemon juice-According to Need

Procedure:

  • Pressure cook Dal by adding water,turmeric powder,salt,coarsely chopped tomatoes till 2 whistle.Transfer the Dal to a big bowl and roughly stir.
  • Heat ghee in a pan,Add dry red chilli and cumin seeds and when seeds began to pop Switchoff the flame and keep it aside.In another pan heat ghee,Add crushed ginger garlic and chopped green chillies and sauté for a while.Then add sliced onions and sauté until it turns light brown.
  • Now mix spices red chilli powder Garam masala and fry till oil separates from the sides and mix with pressure cooked Dal and chopped coriander leaves,Pour the prepared Tadka into the dal and Serve hot with Tandoori Roti.
